Everyone I follow on social media seems to be at #IFC2019 in Holland and I'm not. I am full of remorse at not being there and jealousy of those that are there and I'm not enjoying the feeling one bit!
It's an interesting thing owning your own business. I don't have a boss to seek permission from. There's no training and development team ensuring I'm up to speed on latest thinking and best practice. No HR team overseeing my wellbeing. I am all those functions and the buck stops with me. The last few months I have tried to get out to more networking events and have spent some much needed quality time with colleagues, fellow consultants and fundraisers. And the overwhelming takeaway is I cannot let this side of my working life slip. Fundraising is perpetually evolving and the charity sector is unrecognisable from 20 years ago. I have to stay ahead of the curve in order to serve my clients in the best way possible. I'm making an early new years resolution. 2020 is going to be the year of IoF Convention and IFC and I will ensure I prioritise learning, evolving, connecting, relationship building and hopefully will avoid feeling like I do this week! #FOMO
